Re: Smaart 5.4 and Windows 7 Thanks for the replies, guys. It is a legitimate copy and I contacted Rational about it. They suggested I try to install as administrator and also emailed me an updated installer file, both of which did not work.
I tried messing with some of the compatibility settings, but was unable to get things running. The guy in the second link above has the same error that I received, except his happens when he runs the program. I get that error during installation. If I ignore the error, the installation completes, but once I attempt to run the application, I get an infinite amount of error messages and have to force kill Smaart in order to get out of it.

Re: Smaart 5.4 and Windows 7 If you need the best compatibility and greatest speed with audio software and hardware in Windows 7, you need to be running the 32 bit version. This is just the way it is right now and for the next year or two at least. Software is king and hardware is its slave. There's a fair amount of folks in the Apple camp that don't get this and it _may_ contribute to the slower software development for OSX.
You may have a needed application that demands the 64 bit OS, so you're stuck with just making the best overall compromise. Still, the emotional issues some folks deal with concerning logic machines - computers - amazes me. They'd rather see the available memory count higher than have a more useful, reliable and faster computer - not to mention avoiding the costs of buying stuff that'll work in a 64 bit OS while being thunked down to 32 bits. BTW, Smaart v5.4 runs better in Windows 7 32 bit than it ever did in Win2k or XP. Re: Smaart 5.4 and Windows 7 Thanks for the information, Langston. I'll most likely be switching to the 32-bit OS and seeing if that solves some of my problems.
I really only use the Windows side when running control programs that require windows and the inventory software at work, so there's no demand for the 64 bit OS. I have Smaart 7 installed on the Mac side, so that's what I normally run, but there are times I need to run control software in Windows. It would be nice to have Smaart installed on the Windows side and if accomplishing that means running 32 bit, it's fine by me. I've tried just running Windows in a virtual machine, but never really have much success.

If the application number is 1.05b or later, the DSC260 is ready for remote control and you can skip ahead to Making control connections on page 2.
