ISBN: 820 In a startling change of direction, cult favorite Tao Lin presents a dark and brooding tale of illicit love that is his most sophisticated and mesmerizing writing yet. Richard Yates is named after real-life writer Richard Yates, but it has nothing to do with him. Instead, it tracks the rise and fall of an illicit affair between a very young writer and his even younger--in fact, under-aged--lover. As he seeks to balance work and love, she becomes more and more self-destructive in a play for his undivided attention. His guilt and anger builds in response until they find themselves hurtling out of control and afraid to let go.
Nov 12, 2010 - For a start, there is very little in this novel about Richard Yates, the great. To things, or not having any reactions that Tao Lin considers worth recording. Every time a reader like you makes a contribution to The Guardian,. Nicholas Lezard discovers the affecting quality of affectlessness.
Lin's trademark minimalism takes on a new, sharp-edged suspense here, zeroing in on a lacerating narrative like never before --until it is almost, in fact, too late.

Fucking loved cognitive behavioral therapy, would be hyped for another book of poetry from him but it looks like he's just in the story game right now. Excited for his major press debut soon. Still haven't read Richard Yates or Shoplifting from American Apparel. I'll try to get to them before Taipei comes out. Digital copies of those would be dope too (but these are also at the lib so no big deal) >> Bullkowski!!DDFKjfJhPl/ Sat Apr 20 22: “This is fucked,” said Sam.
“You know those people that get up every day, and do things,” said Luis. “I’m going to eat cereal even though I’m not hungry,” said Sam. “And are real proactive,” said Luis. “And like are getting things done, and never quit their jobs. Those people suck.” “We get shit done too,” said Sam. “Look at our books.” “I know, but that brings in no money,” said Luis. “Are we, like, that word ‘bohemians.’ Or something.
Our bios: ‘They lived in poverty writing their masterpieces.’” “We are the fucked generation,” said Sam. “Someone release the press release announcing this. Look at that typo.” The word “announcing” was almost twice as long as normal. “I’m laughing,” said Luis. “That is a good typo.” “How do we get out of this,” said Sam.
“Their shoes were shit, they couldn’t afford haircuts, they were stealing to stay alive, living off of strippers to create their art, but they believed that if they could write it something would happen,” said Luis. “Who are they,” said Sam. “They is us,” said Luis.

Any recommendations of good shit similar to Tao Lin? >> Anonymous Sun Apr 21 10: I'm still looking, but it's really hard to find this kind of thing to download for free- it's taken me months find all this tao lin stuff from various sources. At the moment I'm finding it really interesting to follow tao and a couple of other authors on twitter/tumblr all of whom seem to have similar styles, part of which being that their internet presence is an extension of their published works.
You might want to check out some of the authors published by sorryhouse, run by spencer madsen. Also check out MDMAfilms if you can find them. I've seen MDMA, mumblecore and Bebe Zeva, all of them filmed by tao and megan boyle on macbooks. >> Anonymous Sun Apr 21 10: >tao lin thread >not one person claiming Tao Lin made it >no trolling >nobody mad /lit/ what is happening /lit/ /lit/ I'm scared >> Anonymous Sun Apr 21 10: this happens occasionally.
